Learn about pressure with our full sized bed of nails and then study the “blanket” of air that surrounds us by using it to break paint sticks, distort marshmallows and crush cans. Use Bernoulli’s principle to discover the fundamentals of flight and send a rocket soaring using nothing more than water and air.
Coding with Hopscotch | Ages 7-9 | M-Th 9am-3pm
We will use the dynamic visual programming application to build our own games, art and drawing apps, all using drag-and-drop code blocks. We will design our own characters, apps and games and learn about the interactive design process from concept to creation. The last day we will be using a block-based program to code autonomous robots! (iPad needed. Loaners available.)
Girls Who Code Workshops [FREE] Fall 2017. Dates & Times TBD
Learn the Core4 computer science concepts that form the basis for all computer programming languages, whether you want to build a mobile app, a website, or program a robot. Find programming mentors and peers to collaborate with. More about these after-school programs at girlswhocode.com
Lunch: We will spend a section of each day discussing our work OUTSIDE (weather permitting), taking notes in our design journals, and answering the reflection prompts as a group.
iPads: [For Coding with Hopscotch and Bring on the Bots only!] If you have an iPad, please bring it to class. Prior to coming to class, it would be helpful if you have downloaded the free programs we will be using, Hopscotch and Tickle via iTunes. If you do NOT have an iPad, don’t worry. Just select that option from the dropdown menu when you register, and we will provide one for you to use throughout the course.
